Nursing Registration 2026

The Fiji Nursing Council (FNC) is pleased to announce the Nurse Registration Examination scheduled for January 28 and 29, 2026. This national assessment is a mandatory requirement for new graduates seeking to practice as registered nurses, midwives, or nurse practitioners in Fiji.

Under the Nursing Decree 2011, successful completion of this examination is essential for registration with the FNC. Only those who pass are legally authorized to enter the workforce and provide nursing care across public and private healthcare settings. The exam serves as a critical quality assurance mechanism, ensuring that all new entrants possess the necessary knowledge, clinical competence, and professional standards to deliver safe, effective, and ethical care to Fiji’s communities.

The two-day examination will be conducted simultaneously at three designated centres to facilitate accessibility for candidates nationwide:

  • Suva Centre (Central Division, primarily serving Viti Levu’s eastern and central regions, hosted at a suitable facility such as the Fiji School of Nursing or affiliated venue).
  • Labasa Centre (Northern Division, accommodating candidates from Vanua Levu and surrounding areas).
  • Lautoka Centre (Western Division, serving the western parts of Viti Levu).

This multi-centre approach minimizes travel challenges for graduates from diverse geographical locations, promoting equity in participation.

The examination assesses core competencies across nursing theory, clinical practice, pharmacology, ethics, midwifery principles (where applicable), and advanced practitioner knowledge. It includes multiple-choice questions, short-answer sections, and scenario-based items designed to evaluate readiness for real-world responsibilities in hospitals, clinics, community health programs, and specialized settings.

For new nursing graduates, midwives, and aspiring nurse practitioners, the results of this exam directly determine workforce entry. Passing candidates proceed to full registration, enabling employment in Fiji’s healthcare system, while those requiring further preparation may undertake remedial measures before re-sitting.

The FNC urges all eligible candidates to prepare diligently using approved curricula and resources. Strict examination protocols, including identity verification and no-tolerance policies for malpractice, will be enforced to uphold integrity.

We encourage applicants to confirm their venue assignments, review eligibility, and ensure all documentation is complete via the FNC processes. For inquiries, refer to official FNC communications or contact the Registrar.

The FNC remains committed to safeguarding public health by maintaining high professional standards in nursing, midwifery, and nurse practitioner practice.
