Ratu Sukuna Day 2026

Fiji Nursing Council Commemorates Ratu Sukuna Day

The Fiji Nursing Council (FNC) joined the nation today, 29th May 2026, in commemorating Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna Day, honouring the life and legacy of Ratu Sir Josefa Lalabalavu Vana’ali’ali Sukuna, widely regarded as the Father of Modern Fiji.

Staff and management of FNC paused to reflect on Ratu Sukuna’s enduring contribution to nation-building, his visionary leadership as a paramount chief of Lau, and his instrumental role in shaping Fiji’s land, governance, and administrative systems. His legacy of service, integrity, and dedication to community continues to inspire public institutions across the country, including the healthcare and nursing profession.

In marking the occasion, FNC took the opportunity to reaffirm its own commitment to service excellence, integrity, and the wellbeing of the nursing and midwifery profession in Fiji — values that resonate strongly with the principles Ratu Sukuna championed throughout his lifetime.

The Council extends its gratitude to all registered nurses and midwives across Fiji who continue to serve with the same spirit of dedication and sacrifice that defined Ratu Sukuna’s contribution to our nation.

Fiji Nursing Council wishes all Fijians a meaningful Ratu Sukuna Day.
