From 5–7 October 2025, the Fiji Nursing Council (FNC) successfully convened a national workshop at Hideaway Resort Fiji under the theme “Standardizing the Nursing Undergraduate Curriculum.” The workshop brought together heads and representatives of all institutions offering undergraduate nursing education in Fiji, including the University of Fiji, Fiji National University, and TISI Sangam College of Nursing & Health Care Education, alongside officials from the Ministry of Health and the Fiji Nursing Council.
The purpose of the workshop was to review existing undergraduate nursing curricula and to work collaboratively towards a unified, nationally standardized curriculum. Through structured discussions and anonymous consensus-building processes, participants reached agreement on key academic and professional benchmarks. These included standardized theoretical contact hours, clinical practice hours, and core curriculum components to be delivered consistently across all institutions.
The outcomes of the workshop represent a significant milestone in strengthening the quality, consistency, and accountability of nursing education in Fiji. The agreed framework supports improved graduate competence, workforce mobility, and alignment with national health priorities.
The Fiji Nursing Council acknowledges the constructive engagement of all stakeholders and remains committed to overseeing the implementation of the standardized curriculum in partnership with training institutions and the Ministry of Health.
